Through The Portal

by Michael Wright
Through The Portal: Stories, Tales and Re-imaginings is a deeply poetic journey through time, memory, and the unseen. Guided by the voice of a modern griot, Wright conjures stories where ancestral wisdom meets radical imagination—where the scars of history speak, and the future listens. These tales move between the mystical and the mundane, the speculative and the sacred, inviting readers to cross thresholds of grief, revelation, and transformation.
At once political testimony, spiritual invocation, and literary reimagining, this collection dares us to remember what was, wrestle with what is, and dream what might yet be. Through The Portal is not just a book—it is a call to heal, to witness, and to re-enter the world changed.
These stories were born from memory, myth, and meaning. They walk paths between the past and the possible, where old truths wear new skin. In each tale, you will find fragments of struggle, sparks of spirit, and the echoes of those who came before. May you read them not only with your eyes, but with your knowing.

About The Author

Michael J. Wright
Writer | Cultural Worker | Storyteller | Entrepreneur
Michael J. Wright is a modern griot—a keeper of sacred memory and conjurer of futures. Rooted in the soul of Philadelphia and shaped by the ancestral echoes of Vera B., Richard R., Dr. Whittier H., and Maj. Richard R. Wright Sr., Michael’s path has always bridged tradition, innovation, and the call to serve.
With over 40 years of engineering experience and as a partner of 20 years in NOVA Engineering & Environmental, Michael has been strategic force behind transformative projects such as Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Ponce City Market, and SunTrust Park. Yet, beyond the concrete and steel, his truest work has been about shaping lives and stories.
As a former co-leader of Common-Unity, a diverse, contemplative, multi-ethnic SoulTrust, Michael cultivated spiritually grounded, socially engaged communities. He believes we are inherently tribal, meant to heal and be healed in the sacred web of communal life. “Our spirit-selves came here,” he says, “to do our part in the mending.”
A minister, photographer, and fierce believer in the power of story, Michael writes in the tradition of Black prophetic memory—his words rooted in the dungeons of the past and reaching for the dreams of descendants yet unborn. His voice rings with the call to remember, to reimagine, and to restore.
Michael is husband to Natisha M. Wright, father to Marc Wright, Elgin Moore, Lindsey Leota, and Cinque Tropez, and grandfather to six future visionaries.
